Interim Review of Competency Progression

The Interim RCP takes place after six months in practice. Your progress and performance are reviewed by a panel which looks at all the information and evidence contained in your E-Portfolio
The purpose of the Interim RCP Panel is to:

  • Confirm that you are on track to complete on time
  • Ensure that any items identified at your ESR are being followed through
  • Ensure that any other issues are identified
  • Make an outcome recommendation

The panel uses as its primary evidence the reports from your ES and TPD

The priority areas for the panel to review are:

  • Clinical safety
  • Communication ability
  • Engagement with your DFT programme

The report from the panel will set out the following information:

  1. What evidence has been reviewed by the Panel
  2. The Panel’s recommended Outcome
  3. Any recommendations for further development or support

The outcomes which are available to the panel are:

Outcome 1 - Achieving progress at the expected rate but may also include additional guidance for you, the FD

Outcome 2 - Development of specific competences required, which will lead to an Action Plan and, if required, additional ADEPTs, PSQs and/or MSFs

Outcome 5 - Incomplete evidence presented, which will be made, if necessary, to allow you the opportunity to provide any missing evidence within a specified time period (normally 10 working days)

This report from the Interim RCP panel documents all the evidence that has been considered by the panel in their review, and also records the outcome of their review.
In the case where the panel have recommended an outcome 1, the panel have the opportunity to provide guidance and comment for the FD in the light of the evidence they have reviewed. In the cases of outcomes 2 or 5 they must make a record of the reasons for the outcome, and also their recommendations for further training or assessment.
This report is there to assist you in your development and to highlight areas where further learning or experience is needed.
