The National Dental Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) Process aims to support Dental Specialty Trainees who have had an unforeseen significant change in circumstances since commencement of their current training programme and wish to transfer to a different training location in the United Kingdom.

The Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) process applies to the Dental Specialty Trainees currently on the programme with one of the following training organizations:

  • NHS England – Workforce, Training & Education (WT&E)
  • National Education from Scotland (NES)
  • Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA)
  • Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW)

Eligibility criteria

Trainees can apply for the inter-deanery for the reason listed below:

  • Personal disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 or
  • Primary carer responsibilities or
  • Parental responsibilities or
  • A committed relationship or the breakdown of a committed relationship
  • Development of a condition relating to a trainee’s health

Process

Dental IDT process that takes place three times a year. Application window dates will be published on this website. Each application window will remain open for 3 weeks and open in:

  • December – Window 1: 01/12/24 – 22/12/24 with panel in January
  • April – Window 2: 01/04/25 – 22/04/25 with panel in May
  • August – Window 3: 01/08/25 – 22/08/25 with panel in September

Submitting a Dental IDT application

Completed and signed application forms together with attachments and relevant evidence should be emailed to England.Dental.IDT@nhs.net before the end of the application window.
