3rd Annual COPDEND Educational Conference 2013 - Collaborative Practice

The 2013 COPDEND Educators Conference took place in Birmingham on the 7th November 2013.

The conference was attended by 132 delegates including Dental Tutors, Dental Foundation Training Programme Directors, Deans, Associate Deans and invited guests. It provided an opportunity for educators to meet and learn together, share best practice, update on new postgraduate dental educational developments and focus on contemporary areas of interest.

This year’s theme was “Collaborative Practice”.

There were two morning sessions. One discussing Dental Foundation Training – Measuring Success, which was lead by Malcolm Smith, Postgraduate Dental Dean Health Education North East and Charlotte Carr, Project Manager for DFT and Assessed Completion. The other session discussed Introduction of Direct Access for DCPs and was led by Stephen Lambert-Humble, Dean of Postgraduate Dentistry Health Education Kent, Surrey & Sussex. Speakers were Joe Ingham, Dento Legal Advisor Dental Protection Ltd and Paul Brocklehurst, Senior Clinical Lecturer, NIHR Clinician Scientist & Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health University of Manchester.

An afternoon session, which was attended by all focussed on Sharing Best Practice and Improving Quality. A CDO England Update was given by Barry Cockcroft, Chief Dental Officer England. Claire Herbert, Head of Policy (Continuing Assurance and Revalidation) General Dental Council updated the meeting about current requirements and future plans.
